Sorry the blog has been so silent this week. The feature on Tater Tots & Jello of my vestibule left me with a pretty big grin, but that was pretty much the only good thing that happened this week.
I'll summarize the week in another post when I'm a bit more coherent. I'm in an post-migraine fog right now.
I did make it out shopping this week, which was nice. I went to a different Publix and was slightly frustrated with the experience. I asked at customer service about their policy and was greenlighted to use multiple $5/$30 coupons in one transaction as long as my overall total was ok. In other worse, I could use two of the coupons if I had $60 in groceries. The customer service rep said to send the cashier over if there was a problem.
Of course the cashier questioned it and when she asked the same rep I spoke with, the rep changed her mind and told me I had to break everything up! Thankfully, the cashier did me a "favor" and "let it slide" this time.
The bright side is I now have a publix where I can use those coupons without having to run back several times during the week.
I didn't even get all the groceries on my list because I have a firm "one cart" rule. When that one cart is full, my shopping stops! No one likes people who clear the shelves. There's really no reason to clear shelves either.
coupon tip #1: Unless you are fiercely brand loyal, an item will go on sale every 3 months. There's no real reason to get more than 3 months at a time unless it's the lowest the price will be for a very long time. Other items, like cheese or dry pasta, are on a monthly cycle. At least once a month your favorite brand will be on sale.
Once again cereal wasn't on sale at a price I was willing to pay, but there were frozen pancakes. For some reason the family does not like it when I make pancakes and freeze them, but the boxes are ok. I don't get it. I can't taste a difference. But, whatever.
I also stocked up on creamed corn and green beans. They worked out to be about 49 cents per can!
The other awesome deals were were feminine products. Two boxes for $1.39 total! I believe we are now up to a full year's supply and my out of pocket expense was NOTHING if you count the overage I earned from purchasing a few at Walmart several weeks ago.
coupon tip #2: I really like stocking up on healthy and hygiene items. Even if you don't think there are coupons for things you use, this just shows there are! I still haven't purchased toothpaste in forever. The other great thing is, if you don't like the brands, when they are free or cheap like this, please buy them and donate them to a local shelter.
We're going camping next week, so I was able to pick up a few goodies for the trip, including three 2 liter bottles of soda for $1.60.
Here's the breakdown
6 boxes frozen pancakes ($1/2X3)
6 V8 splash (1/2 X3)
5 A1 Steak Sauce ($1/1 X5)
Quaker Oat Squares Cereal
1 box Breakfast on the Go ($1/1)
6 Feminine Products (.50/1 X4 and $1/1 X2)
3 2 liters soda ($1 pepsi max X 2 yellow flyer)
6 motts applesauce (.55/1 X6)
15 cans veggies ($1/5 X3)
My total before tax was just $37 and my savings was $115!
