I L♥VE Halloween.

I'm not sure what my favorite part about it is. Maybe I just never really got tired of playing dress up as a kid? Or Maybe it's because my last house was built on a graveyard and we could see the old cemetery from our front yard? This cemetery was built before the civil war!

Can you just imagine some THING lurking around the corner?

Like maybe ...

I participated in a Zombie Doll swap. The theme was Zombie's in storyland. My partner said she'd love a Zombie themed doll from the Cat and the Hat.

What could be better than a Zombie Thing 2 and a decapitated Thing 1? Those two caused so much trouble alive...just think of the damage a Zombie Thing 2 could do!

To make the doll, I started with a premade doll form. I have never made a doll before and I wasn't about to learn a new skill for a swap.

For the jumpsuit, I traced around the doll form and cut the suit in two pieces out of fleece. So soft...and deadly...

Here's a secret for the applique:

Use your serger on a rolled hem setting. Go along the edges of whatever you want to applique...then stitch down with a regular straight stitch (or in this case, a hot glue gun.) So much easier! I don't normally use my serger unless I'm doing my faux applique.

I spent a lot of time pondering how to do the crazy THING hair. I thought about fleece, but I really wanted movement.  I looked at individual feathers and that was hugely expensive. I went with the next best thing...a Feather BOA!

It came on a rope, so I was just able to hot glue it to the doll form. Lots of finger burns.

The face is done with pieces of felt and embroidery floss.

Little Miss loved the dolls and didn't want to send them away to my partner...
