Pumpkin Halloween mantle

It's still September. Yeah, I know. But I couldn't wait to start decorating the house (inside and out) for Halloween!

Last year, our porch decor was a HUGE HIT. We had many people stop their cars in front of our house to trick or treat, then get back in and go on their way. It definitely had the WOW factor.

This year, we're going with a slightly different theme...and I promise to show it when we're done. It will definitely be more on the creepy side.

Inside the house, however, I am trying to keep it on the Halloween/fall side so I don't have to transition as much in to Thanksgiving.

While yard sale shopping this summer, I bought a ton of decorations for Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I love the Boo sign :) It's just burlap and felt over a piece of wood. Very easy to replicate and a kid friendly project for sure.

Mr. Gourd was a gift from my neighbor. She's always making craftiness and bringing it to my house.

I'm seeing glitter pumpkins everywhere this fall. So easy to make, too! Glue and glitter and a bit of time to dry. And if you manage to get glitter everywhere, use a lint roller to clean it up :)

I'll be sharing the outdoor Halloween mantle this weekend. I need to add a few ghoulish touches to make it complete.

Alice in Wonderland Zombie Doll

I made an Alice Zombie doll a couple weeks ago. It didn't go like I wanted and there were a few other mishaps with the project that meant I needed to start over.

Thank goodness this zombie doll went much better.

I think I'm going to stick with using premade doll forms for my zombie hoard. It makes things a lot easier.

For Alice part two, I also found a good use for a decapitated Barbie head...by using the hair. It was perfectly out of control! After cutting the hair off the Barbie, I hot glued it to the doll form's head, covering the entire back. Then, it was trimmed up.

The eyes were made using a button, felt and a scrapbooking brad.  I also added a small felt hair bow with a heart button.

And just like any good zombie, she's covered in dirt and blood (stamping ink and paint.) No hands and feet because those have been cut off leaving her with bloody stumps.

Too bad she's not staying at my house. She would have made a nice companion to the awesome zombie Queen of Hearts I received from Sarahrella After Midnight

Domo hair clip

Finally back home with the family. It was a crazy trip and I plan to share all the fun details next week. I just needed to jump back in to doing something creative for our craft day...so that's what we have today.

Danger Girl's hair is growing out and she's finally agreed to use some type of hair clip. She just doesn't want anything too girly.  I can't blame her. So many hair clips are either completely plain, or flowers, ribbons, bows, etc. Definitely not something Danger Girl would ever agree to wear.

With the help of some felt, two small scrapbooking brads and a hot glue gun, I created this cute Domo hair clip. For those who don't know Domo...he's a Japanese anime monster.

Next on the anime themed hair clips for the girls...Totoro! That one may take a bit more planning!

I'm still alive

Barely.

This past week has been hard.

It's never a good sign when you hear little feet coming in to your room in the middle of the night and the words "Mama, I got sick on my bed" followed by the feet running quickly out of your room into the bathroom...

We got over that in a couple of days before it hit the next one. Then we had two go down at once. Then me, then D.

We spent the holiday weekend catching up on the horrendous amount of laundry that happens when a household of 8 catches a stomach bug.

Meanwhile, I'm trying to get everything in the house together before I go out of town this weekend.

I'm far more confident in my husband's ability to handle the house and kids while I'm away for 11 days than he is.

If I manage to post anything before I leave, it will probably involve fun and exciting topics like "How to cram two weeks worth of food in to your freezer!" or "How to survive a lengthy airplane trip with a preschooler when you can't bring the one toy that WILL keep her occupied the entire time on the plane with you." This post could also be titled "My child will play with playdough for hours at a time"

Wish me luck!
