The minute I saw it in my friend, Andrea's, house... I wanted the table. And my kids aren't even really IN to building giant Lego contraptions any more. I have this secret love of Legos... My kids don't even know about it. Well, I love Legos as long as I'm not stepping on them. That's what's do awesome about this table... There's storage AND plenty of room for a big group to play!
The table is made from salvages parts. legs reclaimed from an old table are braced on two sides with 1x6 boards.
The top of the table begins with a base of 1x6s... Pretty much creating a box. The table top is created with decking materials and the large Lego brick bases are glued down.
My favorite part is in the middle...
It's a well... For storing the pieces. Andrea's husband found two pieces of curved wood, attaching one to each side of the gap. Next, he lined the inside with upholstery weight fabric. This basically creates a sort of hammock or long U shaped storage!
Pretty darn ingenious!
After putting the whole project together, it was stained. Hate staining? Painting is another great option!
The Boy still loves his Legos. He doesn't need something this big but I bet we can come up with a smaller version for him. It's certainly better than the buckets of pieces and assorted creations that have taken over his desk, table and dresser.
